Why Ignoring Brake Repairs Could Cost You More Than You Think!

Break RepairIf there’s one part of your car you should pay a lot of attention to, it’s your brake system. Don’t get us wrong — the engine, steering, tires, and other parts are equally important. But note that the brakes are the only component that helps with sudden stops, slowing down, and those in a full-on close call.

But like every other part of your car’s system, even your brakes warn when something’s wrong. The question then is, what happens when you ignore those signs for an immediate brake repair?
At Euro Automotive, our team works tirelessly to give drivers like you premium service and ensure that all brake repairs are fixed on your first visit. We understand how dangerous an unreliable brake system is, so our aim is to provide a service that consists of ASE-certified technicians, efficient tools, and quality parts.

Warning Brake Signs that Signal the Need for a Repair

  • The brake warning light: As number one, the yellow or red dashboard light dedicated to the brakes will indicate a problem. If you see this light, you should schedule an appointment with a technician.
  • Shaking steering wheel: If the steering wheel vibrates, especially when you apply the brakes, that indicates a problem with the rotors.
  • Grinding sounds: Whether a squeal or a high-pitched grinding sound, this inconvenient sound relates to a worn-out brake pad.
  • Soft brake pedal: As a driver, you should already know the amount of pressure it takes to apply a certain level of brakes to your car. If the pedal feels softer than normal, this is probably caused by leaking brake fluid. Drive to a mechanic immediately.
  • When you apply the brakes, the car pulls to one side. This usually happens when the brake caliper is faulty, or the brake pad is seized. In this case, schedule an appointment with the technician immediately.
  • A strong chemical odor (almost like burning) after hard braking: This smell could indicate overheated brakes or brake fluid. This is a risky sign and should be reported immediately.
  • It takes longer to hit a stop than usual: Similar to the soft pedal observation, this may relate to the rotors or the pad and should be repaired ASAP.
  • You experience a drag when accelerating.

What happens when these signs are ignored?

In the real sense of it, there are only two things that can happen. But these two things are more costly than immediate brake repair.

  • You’ll likely spend more
Depending on what may be wrong, immediate brake repair costs only a few dollars for light maintenance, pad replacement, or new brake oil. But when these signs are ignored, the entire brake system may become compromised, and instead of light maintenance repairs, you may be facing an enormous bill.
In addition, issues with the brakes (especially a drag or increased tension to stop) strain your tires and suspension system. Imagine having to buy new tires while changing your entire brake system. Not to mention that the more work your car puts in to stop, the more fuel the engine burns. So, not only may you have an enormous bill to sort with the brakes, but you may also have to worry about your tires while buying more gas than you’d usually have.
  • More risks of accidents
As much as brakes show signs before any significant issue, they are also the most unpredictable system in your car. A reduced decelerating power reduces your ability to make sudden stops and close calls, but it may also fail, leading to no control over your car. This is not a chance worth taking. Therefore, it is recommended that you go for immediate repairs, which will make both the road and you much safer.

Brake Repairs FAQs

Inspection and general maintenance usually take about a few minutes. However, repairs and part replacements may take longer.

While checking the brake fluid daily is essential, you may only need to change it once every three years or every 45,000 miles, whichever comes first.
